NOT SILENT with The Vanns

Not Silent with The Vanns

After a killer performance at Yours & Owls, we sit down with Wollongong rockers The Vanns to talk history, new music and tomato sauce.

1. How did you land on the name ‘The Vanns’?

When we started out playing together we didn't have a name and entered a band comp but they wouldn't let us play without one. So we just did the last name thing and chose Vann and wanted to change it straight after but it caught on. (By the way we came last in the band comp)

    2. You recently finished up recording your first full-length album. When does it come out? And what can we expect from the album?

The album will be out in the first half of next year. It's a bit of a mixed bag, definitely a departure from previous releases as it's the first release as a four piece and musically for us more experimental.

      3. Being from Wollongong, was performing at Yours & Owls an extra special gig?

It was epic, we haven't played a hometown show in quite a while. Lots of familiar faces, played some new songs for the first time and it was a vibe.

      4. Did you always know you wanted to pursue music as a career? What would you be doing if you didn’t make it?

Making a career out of it or not I would always be playing/writing music. It's a release for me. I would probably be pursuing a career in golf if music wasn't a full time job, I bloody love the game.

      5. Does anyone have any secret talents or hobbies?

Cam is really damn good at rollerblading.

      6. What are you listening to right now?

Parcels new album + lots of Neil Young.

      7. And lastly, tomato sauce – do you store it in the fridge or pantry?

In the bin. BBQ sauce all the way and kept in the fridge
